Driving in the mountains on I-70 this winter may be a bit smoother, thanks to the recent update to Colorado’s state traction laws. In effect between September and May, drivers are required to equip 2-wheel-drive vehicles with all-season “M+S” or snow tires, or carry chains. Drivers caught without the proper traction on their tires face a fine, which jumps to $500 if the lack of traction results in a lane closure.
